Why Proper Wool Care Matters

British wool is naturally resilient, temperature regulating and moisture wicking. However, as a 100% natural fibre, it benefits from gentle washing and minimal heat exposure.

Caring for your wool socks correctly will:

  • Help maintain their shape
  • Preserve softness and comfort
  • Reduce surface wear
  • Extend their overall lifespan

We design our British wool socks with durability and heritage quality in mind.

With simple care - washing at 30°C, using the right detergent, air drying, and occasional de-pilling - your socks will continue to deliver warmth, comfort and performance for years to come.

Washing Instructions

For best results, please follow these care steps:

✔ Wash at 30°C

Always wash your socks at 30 degrees. Higher temperatures can cause wool fibres to shrink or felt, which may affect fit and texture.

✔ Use a Wool or Delicate Detergent

Choose a detergent specifically designed for wool or delicate fabrics. Avoid standard biological detergents, as these can weaken natural fibres over time.

✔ Turn Socks Inside Out Before Washing

Washing inside out:

  • Protects the outer surface

  • Reduces friction during the wash cycle

  • Helps clean the areas that sit against the skin

✔ Air Dry Naturally

Do not tumble dry. Instead, reshape while damp and allow to dry naturally, ideally laid flat. Excess heat can cause shrinkage and compromise fibre structure.

Pilling is a normal part of wool clothing

Understanding Pilling in Pure Wool

With 100% wool socks, some light pilling may appear after the first few wears. This is completely normal and occurs when small surface fibres rise due to friction - particularly when worn inside boots.

Pilling does not indicate poor quality. In fact, it is common with natural wool yarns and usually settles after initial use.

Using a Pilling Comb

A fabric or pilling comb can be used occasionally to refresh the appearance of your socks.

Gently glide the comb across the surface to remove loose fibres and reduce visible bobbling. This quick maintenance step helps restore a smoother finish and keeps your socks looking well cared for.

Storage Tips

When not in use:

  • Store socks folded rather than stretched
  • Keep in a dry drawer or cupboard
  • Use natural moth protection if storing long term
